Teams of up to 13, plus a Drummer, are invited to take part in this fun event. Each race sees ten* paddlers race their special, purpose-built dragon boat against one or two other boats from Town Bridge to the finish line at Weaver Point piazza outside The ODEON, Baron’s Quay. The paddlers are kept in team by their Drummer, whilst the professional helmsman keeps the boat steering in the right direction.


The entry fee is £440 per team, and each team member is asked to raise a minimum of £50 via our Just Giving page. 50% will then be given to the team’s nominated charity, with the remainder going to our own nominated good causes. (Of course, you can choose to donated some, or all, of your 50% to our beneficiaries.)


Teams can be made up of, for example, work colleagues, sports teams, pub regulars or family and friends. Paddlers must be aged 16 or over on the day of the event (Drummers should be aged 12 or over), competent swimmers and be able to sit unaided when in the boat. As well as benefiting the good causes, taking part in the MIGHTY River Weaver Dragon Boat Challenge presents great opportunities for raising the profile of the team’s organisation, with wonderful photo possibilities – as well as creating a great (often hilarious) spectacle for on-lookers.


With all of the 2017 teams indicating that they will be returning in 2018, there’s no time to lose in getting your entry submitted.

We have had requests to allow individuals and small groups to ask if they can take part too. Well, the great news is NOW YOU CAN – as part of a scratch team.


Entry is £44 per person, payable upon entry and all the sponsorship you raise will go to the Festival’s two nominated charities. If there is a number of you, each person should enter individually. Spaces will be allocated strictly in order of receipt of your entry fee. If there aren’t sufficient entries to make a scratch team, all entry fees will be refunded in full.


We will provide a drummer for the scratch team and select a Team Captain by drawing a name from the entries. Once one scratch team has been filled, we will start making another.


Apart from the payment clauses, entry to the Scratch Team is subject to the same Terms and Conditions as for Team Entries.
